The same qualities that seem to give us strength are quite often the source of great weakness. So what are those qualities? They are the pretenses empowered by illusions about self that we erect and fortify—often unknowingly—by our actions on a daily basis. They are a compensation for what we think we lack. It all goes back to early learning and the mental models and beliefs that like gravity warp the space around us to keep is where we are.
