Each of these parental excesses in childhood influences early mental models and beliefs that are lived out in adult life. For example, if you are always striving to “do better”, can’t stop procrastinating, get bored easily and can’t “stick to it” then those behaviors might be linked to perfectionism, over-coercion, and overindulgence respectively.

Tomorrow we are going to look at Perfectionism and how it gets developed as a driver in our lives. We are starting with this pathogenic attitude because it is common among “successful” people who strive endlessly and often fruitlessly for greater and greater success in pursuing their unreachable goal of perfection. More than one post will be devoted to each parental excess so that parental behaviors, emotional experiences linked to beliefs as adults, and leadership consequences for organizations will all be explored.
